About the Pastor

Early Life

Michael Gates was born to Georgia Allean and Leroy Gaylord Gates as their middle child on August 19, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His older brother is Daniel Lee Gates of Lawton, Oklahoma and his younger sister is Karen Denise Buckman of Rogers, Arkansas.

He graduated from Turner High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1971.  He moved back to Oklahoma City in 1972. Michael started attending the First United Pentecostal Church where he attended as a child. It was at this same church where Rev. R.C. Wise baptized him in the name of Jesus Christ in 1963. While attending the First United Pentecostal Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma under Pastor Dale Smith, Michael received the Holy Spirit on May 10, 1973.  Shortly thereafter, he felt his calling to the ministry.

In August of 1974, he met Renee Freeman while her sister's husband, Monte Showalter, was holding a revival for his church. They were married March 22, 1975.

Michael then decided to pursue his calling by attending Jackson College of Ministries in 1975.  He graduated from JCM in 1978 with his Associate in Arts degree in Theology.


Michael Gates began life in the ministry as an Evangelist traveling with his family for a short time. He held ordination papers with the United Pentecostal Church for 21 years and then held ordination papers with the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served two terms as the Oklahoma District Eastern Section Presbyter. He presently is ordained through New Life Apostolic Church of Rogers Inc.

He has ministered in many churches across the United States and has been privileged to be in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rico, Belize, & Guatemala.

In 1978 to 1979, he was a Youth/Assistant Pastor in Shawno, Wisconsin while starting a home missions church in White Lake, Wisconsin.

Pastor Gates pastored in Clinton, Oklahoma from 1980 to 1986, Dalhart, Texas from 1987 to 1990 and Monett, Missouri from 1990 to 1995. 

In 1995, he and his family moved to Rogers, Arkansas and started the New Life Apostolic Church in their home. From there the Church moved to a store front building in New Town Square. In 1998 the present facility was purchased at 410 W. Birch in Rogers.  Since then, the church has grown in number and spiritual growth under his guidance.

He also works full time as a Project Manager for Miller Commercial Flooring of Springdale, Arkansas – the Number 1 Commercial Flooring Company in Northwest Arkansas.

Michael Gates is a wonderful Pastor, Father, friend and spiritual leader with wisdom, compassion and a great desire to reach the lost souls in our area.
